Home Sweet Home from Humble Quilts

Here's a "on again, off again" quilt I'm slowly working on. The blocks measure 5x7.

These were the newest ones I made and added to the blocks I had previously made.

I have a little collection of French General fabrics that I love. You may recall the string basket medallion is made from the same tote of FG!

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

A Basket Case from Humble Quilts

I've got some more houses cut and managed one more little one to add to my collection.

I had some French General strips and decided to use it as a border for the string basket. I'm planning on adding to it just not quite sure what. I'm on the road teaching string quilting so maybe I'll get more inspiration for this basket.  Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Fly Away Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik June Challenge reads as follows:

Use one of your precut bundles and play with the versatile Flying Geese blocks to create a fun quilt or table runner! Your project must use Flying Geese blocks as the focus but you can combine other blocks to enhance the project.

Now, I am not a fan of Flying Geese Blocks. The construction is a fiddly multi-step process, regardless of the method you choose.  Even when the method works for you, you need a specialty ruler for precision points. In my opinion a flying goose block is made up of two ...

Les Maison Quiltalong with Cecile and Corrine from Humble Quilts

I got a chance to make more of the houses with the French General fabric. They are delightful to make!
I doubt I'll have mine completed for the quiltalong, but that's okay. I think I want to make this quilt fairly large so it will take me awhile.

Below are a few photos of recent outings. 6 weeks until we depart for Peru!

Different perspective on this trail from the top.

It is a pretty big climb and an excellent training hike. I go into the canyon, then back up, then turn around. Actual hiking time is right ...

QAL 2023 Les Maisons from Humble Quilts

Here's a couple more houses made with French General fabrics.

I'm loving these little houses! I do have a problem, though. They are different heights! Haven't figured out what to do about that yet. I so love the little chimney and will be doing a few more of those.

So far I've had a wonderful week and I hope you are too!

Retreating Part 2 from Humble Quilts

It has been a wonderful and productive week of sewing and deepening friendships!

Here's a little more sewing that took place.(check out Wednesday's post if you missed it! HERE)

I made a test block for the house quiltalong with Cecile. I wasn't sure I wanted to use my French General fabrics for this project, but after making this and leaving it out to look at for a day or two, I thought, YES, I do ! So here is block one. I think it measures about 5"x7"
I got a chance to work on my turkey ...

Flower Power is a Completed Quilt Top! from Quilty Folk

One of the things that I was determined to accomplish in the past week, was to get to completed quilt top stage with 'Flower Power'. There was an idea or two from the initial scribblings, but in the end, as usual, the quilt made all the decisions.

Improv. strip sets
First up, there needed to be some space between at least some of the applique blocks. It was easy to decide on some easy, breezy improv. strip rows. As you can see, I made short little stacks of sewn together, free cut strips. Not too off kilter, but just enough ...

A Neighborhood of Houses with Tracey’s Quilt from Quilted Joy

In August of 2020, I was able to show everyone watching the Quilted Joy Clubhouse how I would quilt Tracey’s House Quilt. She had this Neighborhood of Houses top which she made to be a raffle quilt for her guild. Guilds can be a great way to gather with others with the same interests and learn and grow together.  They can not only be fun, but you can find support and encouragement there as well. I cannot recommend them enough. So this house quilt just makes me think of all her guild members sitting in their homes helping each ...

Island Batik Row by Row Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

Paul: There is a new restaurant in Ashburn.
Me: Uh huh.
Paul: Take a look. They have alligator.
Me: Cajun?
Paul: Yes. They have andouille sausage, shrimp and grits, jambalaya and also beignets.
Me: They sure look authentic.
Paul: Let's go.
Me: Happily.
Paul: Valentine's Day?
Me: Absolutely NOT.
Paul: Oh come on.
Me: Every place is overpriced, overhyped and overcrowded.
Paul: They cannot be any more overpriced than they already are.
Me: I did not come to America because I was missing crowds.

I won the argument. We will go another day.
In my opinion, the perfect ...

Monday Motivation: Work Toward Progress from Patchwork Sampler Blog

progress quote

I really, really want to finish the Wanderer’s Wife top. It is a monster though and summer is turning out to be a bad time to make this commitment. I decided to work toward progress though, not perfection.

My small quilt group is meeting this week and I wanted to have the top ready for show and tell. It is not going to happen. We have good weather for such a very short period of time in Wisconsin and for my mental health, I have to take advantage of every minute of it. We try to pack many fun ...
